Day 5 – Spend it All

Key Scripture

2 Corinthians 12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.

Christmas was such a memorable part of childhood. As a kid, I loved to go through the toy section of the JCPenney catalog and figure out what toy I wanted for Christmas. There were six of us in the family. Because Dad worked full time, Mom worked mostly part time in order to be home as much as possible. Throughout my entire life, my parents were willing to sacrifice daily and to give completely of themselves and their finances so that us kids were provided for. I remember them even going without Christmas presents from each other so that the kids could have that coveted toy from the JCPenney catalog. They were willing to spend it all.

The Apostle Paul said it like this: I will gladly spend – I am willing to spend my time, my life, and all that I have that God has given me in order to serve you and help you be sure of your salvation. He even went on to say that he was willing to reach the point of loving souls even if it meant that they would love him less. That is the true definition of a servant. This Expect More campaign goes far beyond how much money we can spend. I challenge you today to have the mind of Paul. Be willing to spend every resource God has given you to win souls for the Kingdom of God. Even though my parents sacrificially gave to us kids, this exceeds even natural parental instincts. Parents “lay up treasures for their children,” but the Apostle Paul was saying, “I spend not merely my treasures, but myself.”

Expect More Prayer

Lord, You have entrusted us with so many valuable resources. Help us to take on the true spirit of servanthood and be willing to “spend it all” for the glory of Your Kingdom. I pray that each person who reads this today will look to you Lord and with an open heart and mind say, “Lord, spend me.” In Jesus Name, amen.
